With the coast blown out again...

http://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/station/flowplot/hydroPlot.php?id=FSSO3&pe=HG

My friend Doug and I took what may be the last chance of the season to chase some steelhead on one of the smaller coastal streams.  As many of you know, most of these "small" tribs close on Sunday, April 1st.  This has been a good year for our steelhead to remain unmolested by anglers as many of these streams have been inundated with tons of snowfall and have pretty much been inaccessable without a bunch of work.  Although our day was unproductive on the catching side of things, we learned a lot about what it takes to go steelheading, flung a fly at a few fish, and had some fun exploring a river that we had all to ourselves.  Also, we got a ton of exercise and my calves are still recovering.

A look ahead! Calling Potential Tuna fishers

by Jad 16. March 2012 04:34

I have been receiving a fair amount of calls and emails from guys that want to fish for tuna in the Summer of 2012.  I do understand that not everyone has the ability to put together a group big enough to "rent the entire" boat at a moments notice.  That being said, I would like to build a "revised" list of names, phone #'s, and emails of those guys that are interested in fishing this summer.  Basically a "HOTLIST" of folks that want to go when the fishing is prime.

Please reply to: tuna@opportunityflyfishing.com

Put Tuna Hotlist as the subject

And include name, phone #, and valid email

Thanks...Captain Jad Donaldson

More fish from this week!

Calling Salmon Junkies!

by Jad 6. March 2012 02:56

This past week I had the pleasure of fishing the owners of Salmon Junkies, a European purveyour of Atlantic Salmon trips to Russia.  Columbus, Kare, and Steffen joined Brian Silvey, Jeff Hickman, Marty Sheppard, and I for a weeklong, whirlwind tour of Oregon.  Combining speyrods and a ton of camera equipment, these fellows plied our local waters and had great fishing.  They also visited a few flyfishing companies and flyshops, and got to see as much as possible from the "prairie" to the coast.

All in all a great trip and I can't wait to see these guys in the future.  Maybe it's my turn to head there for some Atlantics!  If any of you are interested, please let me know as we are setting up an adventure for the summer of 2014 and 2015.

Here are a few of the pics that Steffen sent to me this morning:

Next off to the Clack, with Jeff Hickman

Then rolling to the coast with myself!

We had fishy water levels...

We had way more gear than was necessary (as usual)
